Mame quest 0.143
« on: January 29, 2013, 10:20:35 pm »
Does anyone know where I can get this version of mame with the nag screens disabled?

Do I need a new install or can I just patch it somehow?

Thanks guys, I guess I will try it out when I get a second this weekend.  I was hoping that I could just find it compiled somewhere but I've probably already spent more time looking than if I just compile it myself.

Is there some legal reason why it isn't hosted anywhere?  I mean, the nag screens serve an obvious purpose so I assume the official release of MAME has them for that reason.  Just a little surprised that I can't find it anywhere.

I was in the same boat with trying to find a .105 sans nag (wanted .105 to run on an old p4). That was a little harder because there were no diff patches pre .106. After many many searches and dead end forum posts from 2006 I finally found the info for the edit. Yeah it seems the mame guys don't like re distributions with that edit.

good day.

Because when it falls into the hands of noobs, they report bugs and make a post about every game that doesn't work, asking why it doesn't work when there should be a big red box telling them that it doesn't work.

Ok, so I try to compile 0.143 with the hi score patch.  It does it's thing and everything looks like it is working but then doesn't ever spit out a compiled executable.  Here's the error at the end.

Any ideas?

I've been using this on all of my cabs for a couple of months now and it's worked like a charm.

Wow! You are my new hero for letting me know about this. I couldn't figure out why my new setup wouldn't let me waggle the joystick to get past the screens like my old setup did.....this works great!!

That program gets me past some of the nag screens but not the one about such and such rom has known playability issues.  I still have to do the left and right on the stick.

I finally got a compiled file for Mame64.exe but I can't get regular old Mame.exe.  In MameCompiler 64 there are optimize for settings, is that optimization for the mame executable or is that optimization for the process of compiling.  I'm using Windows 7 64 bit but want it for my x86 cab.  I tried the whole shebang on my x86 computer running XP and I get the same error as I already posted.

Don't really understand what I'm doing wrong and I wish that there was some other way to figure it out other than waiting the full 20-30 minutes for the thing to compile.

Maddening. :banghead:

Oh, damn. Sorry about that, dude. I forgot to mention that. It only takes away the nag screens. Not the ones informing problems. Video emulation isn't 100%, sound emulation... playability... etc.

I think compiling should take care of that. I've not tried to compile yet.   :dunno

Best of luck to you.
Thanks for the file.  It's a way better solution than what I have been able to find up until this point.

Dang, I tried compiling this bad boy probably a dozen different times with errors every time.  Finally found the version I needed already compiled with the appropriate patches.  What a pain.  I used Mamecompiler 64 and tried doing it manually in a command prompt.  I think that I wasn't getting the right folder permissions in Windows 7 or something.

Anyway, I would have loved to find a solution to compiling this myself but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
