Extra Long Push Buttons?
« on: January 27, 2013, 11:36:14 am »
Ok, drilling the holes in the cab, I seem to have hit a problem.  The area where the coin 1/coin 2 buttons will go is 3/4" thick wood, not a problem.

However the area for the other buttons, the wood is two boards together, 1 1/2" thick, and of course I didn't realize that this would be a problem until AFTER I drilled.  The buttons I have are standard length and not enough comes out for me to be able to thread them.

One option is for me to try and cut off the one board, somewhat awkward because of its location, but possible.  Before I do that though, I was wondering if there is someplace that makes/sells extra long buttons?  The holes are the standard 1 1/8" diameter, and I can make them a little bigger if need be, but I can't find if such things are made/sold, or if there are any other ideas for a workaround solution.

Thanks!

Just route out a pocket around the button holes. Like I did for these short buttons on the lower right of the CP in this pic...

Another approach is to use Ultimarc's Goldleaf buttons.

Since they don't have the microswitch sticking off the side, you just have to route out a pocket the depth of the second board and big enough to fit your button wrench to tighten the nut.

BTW - Goldleafs have .110" tabs.
