GunCon2 Wiimote mashup
« on: January 19, 2013, 05:14:28 am »
Hi all, I am running Wiimotes on my MAME setup and tried 2 different types of Wii gun shells, then quickly realised that they were not anywhere near close to the arcade feel I was after.

So I grabbed 2 old Namco GunCon2's from the local auction and completed my test mashup this evening, works sweet.

I mapped the top hat, button A, B, 1 and 2 to the originl buttons in the gun for a seamless integration.

I quickly realised that I would have to disassemble the unit everytime the batteries went flat, that wasnt an option so I used the original GunCon2 cable and hardwired it to a 3.3v ATX PSU, now it doesnt disconnect, has cables like the arcade units do and no need for batteries. Once installed I will cover the cables with thicker outers just like the arcade units have.

A few pics of the mashup.
Thanks

I'm with yenome.

How'd you get the wiimotes syncing consistently with a PC? Any particular bluetooth stack/drivers/dongles, or other software?

I've come across the "Crossfire" wiimote pistols that have the wiimote built right in, but, to date, I haven't found a good solution to getting wiimotes to consistently "connect" to a pc without a whole lot of twiddling with things every single time.

Regardless, though, excellent mashup!  :applaud:

I also want to know this.  I have an awesome set of Walther P99 replica wii-mote guns, but can't get even one to pair consistently and when I try to pair the second one, I get the blue screen of death half the time.  It's been a while since I messed with them.

hi, yes I had that issue also until I found a wiimote script by Howard c. Version 1.5. I did have to edit it slightly to remove the auto reload functionality as my setup didn't like that. When combined with a standard Bluetooth stack it works wonders. All I did was add the script to my startup folder and when the pc boots its starts mame and the script, then I simply hold down button 1 and 2 on the wiimote and they connect and stay connected until I power down. Need to remember to connect each wiimote in order. The script also includes a calibration of each gun via the d pad, its 99% accurate in my opinion. Also works for supermodel and demul.

will post a vid of boot and connect to show you what I mean.

ps I never had any luck with the blusoeil drivers so my advice is to steer clear of them

thanks
