« on: November 03, 2003, 11:14:37 am »
i finally got me street fighter 2 dedicated cab with working coin mechs all the buttons joysticks are perfect.

now i heard something about a J-PAC that hooks into the jamma harness.

heres the questions.

1.what version of mame does arcadeOS use??
2.is my geforce 4 mx video card compatabil?
3.when i buy the J-PAC do i just plugin in and play.
4.do the coin mechs work with the J-PAC??
5.whats arcadeOS?
6.can i control the game selection from the menu with the joysticks and buttons??
7.do i HAVE to have the arcadeVGA card form ultimarc in order to use the J-PAC?
8.i know the monitor is a 19 inch one and plays good but how will it run with MAME?

thats all i can think of for now

well welcome to the board but dude alot of those questions can be answered with a little research on your part--besides the best place for j-pac info is the ultimarc site, it gives hook up instructions and usage there.  BUT because I'm a swell guy and its a slow day, here goes:

1.  Arcadeos is a DOS based front end--mame is the executable--they are 2 different things--generally with arcadeos your run dmame (dos mame)
2.  it might be-never had one--best cards for mame are the arcadevga by ultimarc, trident t64, some ATI's and some nvidia--others may pipe in about their cards--I've only used the trident and it works very well with advmame.
3. no--it takes some configuration, a little patience and a blood sacrifice to pac-man (goats blood will do)
4.yes they jamma interface can handle the coin mechs--if properly connected
5. see question 1
6.yes--arcadeos and mamewah are the two best front ends for keyboardless mameing in my humble opinion
7.no but its easier--the trident and other pc cards require a set up process
8.pc monitor or arcade monitor? both run well with mame but are completely different setups.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Yeah, you can also ask at ultimarc's forum.

If you want ease of setup you will want an ArcadeVGA.  That was you aren't just stuck with DOS, unless futzing around with advmame and vga cable hacks is your thing.

I fyou want both a computer AND the sf2 running in the same cabinet I suggest getting something like multijamma (http://www.multigame/jamma.html).  Though you could just swaps the JAMMA harnes and make something swappable for the extra buttons in the JAMMA+ setup.

The JPAC is plug and play for the controls side, for video and sound that will require some setup.
