Mala gamelist with images problem on startup
« on: January 14, 2013, 02:38:22 pm »
I've tried everything and can't get it working. So I use the Mala tree for my structure, basically it's one main menu and various emulators can be chosen on it:

Menu
  |_Mame
  |_Nintendo
  |_etc

In the layout editor I have my game list set to images instead of text. When I load up Mala in windows there's no problem, everything loads as it should and I can see the images in the game list.

The problem occurs when I have the option on for Mala to "start with windows", or if I use Mala as my shell by altering the regedit in windows 7 64bit. In both instance when Mala loads up, I see my background image and I can cycle through the game list, but the game list images no longer show. If I shut mala down and restart it, they appear again. I tried it on 2 computers now and the same problem occurs. Any idea what is going on here?

I know you're supposed to save images based on the mala tree names, so mine should be something like "menu_mame.jpg, menu_nintendo.jpg, etc" and the "tree menu snaps" directory should be set to where the images are, but that doesn't seem to work. Also, if I set the game list option to text instead of images, the text shows up fine, so currently that is how I have it set up, but I would really like to see images instead of text.

A shot in the dark. But I had problems with windows7 using the servostiks+DaOldMans plugin+joytray.exe+mala start with windows option checked=joy sticks didn't change till mala was restarted.

BUT I put a short cut of mala.exe here: C:\Users\(User-Name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup    I didn't have to restart mala on boot and my joysticks would change without issue.

Seems that start menu\programs\startup folder is called upon after the MS services and startup stuff is done. Thinking out loud here.

good day.

I have tried putting the mala.exe shorcut into the windows startup folder, and the images DO show up like they're supposed to, but it creates two other problems for me.

One being I'm trying to hide the windows desktop entirely, and second it gives me issues with the taskbar. After Mala loads I see the taskbar load up, even though it's set on hidden. This basically makes my joystick useless unless I hook up the mouse and click somewhere on the screen to fully hide the taskbar.

So basically it seems when Mala loads too fast ("start mala with windows" setting is on, or mala.exe is the shell in regedit) the images don't appear. Maybe there's some application that needs to load before Mala for it to load the images properly. I have no idea what that could be though.
