So Luna City is gone, huh?
« on: January 07, 2013, 07:37:52 pm »
I have a page of someone's cab build, name of Herzberg, and then I thought of Peter Hirschberg, and remembered someone in the last few/several months saying something about him. I finally found the news on KLOV. Damn, almost three years ago!  What a......I don't know what to call it. Sorta weird, I guess.

The site is still up, though, so at least there's a record of the place and all.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

From the JAMMA+ Forum

"Welcome to Luna City Arcade, my private home arcade.

Please note that Luna City no longer exists.

In March 2010 - Julie my wife of 18 years and a big supporter of the arcade decided to throw me out of my own house. The house I designed and built. I am not allowed to set foot on the property without her written permission. Ironic.

I was forced to sell off about half of my games (and she got half of the money from that, which is asinine). She now has exclusive use of the house + arcade and I haven't seen my games in a year and a half. I hope to get them back at some point in the future but nothing is certain in divorce (she may end up with everything) and the games will likely end up in storage even if I do get them back.

I am keeping this website active as a testament of what the arcade once was, and in the hopes of one day rebuilding.

Thanks for the good times!"

Sad

Wow, that shouldn't have been sold, it should have been made into a historical site.

In the Luna City videos I saw, Peter said his wife was always very supportive of his endeavors ... then she pretty much destroys it all.

When I found out about the closure last year, I was pretty bummed, too.

Wow, that shouldn't have been sold, it should have been made into a historical site.

Yeah, Luna City was a veritable classic arcade museum! I would've loved to have visited, not only to play the games but to meet Peter as well.

Sidenote: I was amazed to discover that Peter created the graphics for "Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade."

I read through the pertinent threads at KLOV, and I'm not sure what happened. Apparently he had some breakdown, and he got arrested and then committed. That's about the only part that has some lucidity. The rest goes back and forth between him saying all he really wanted was to spend time with his kids, and the arcade was taking all his time, and then other weird rather contrary stuff. Wife was pissed because she loved the arcade, and was freaked out by his wanting to get rid of it.

The only thing certain....and that's only because some people at KLOV have said they saw the cabs for sale and all....is that he sold some games.

I would add the lesson is: have your own house and life. I do.
