Thinking of building a kit cocktail machine
« on: December 24, 2012, 04:26:41 pm »
Hey guys and gals-

Well, I cut my teeth on building my wife a bartop.  I kept it down in my recording studio/office, and she played it often down there while i was working.

However, we are getting divorced (tis ok), and she's keeping the bartop, as it was a gift to her.

I did like having an arcade machine in my studio space, gave it a cool vibe.

So, I'm looking to get a new project going.  I have a 24" LCD, and computer all lined up from extra parts I have laying around.  However, I do need a cabinet kit, and was thinking of doing a cocktail, so it's still usable table/workspace in the studio.

Can anyone recommend a kit?  I know arcade depot is one of the best ones around for this, but I have no idea when they are coming back online post-hurricane (worth waiting?).  Not in much of a rush, but would like to start gathering parts/designing, etc, since I'll have some extra Christmas money laying around.

Thanks!  Hope all of you have a great holiday, whatever you celebrate!

Charlie

Well, I was planning (when I was planning this) using an AD kit, and having him route a custom top for me, which they do offer.

Make sure your LCD is viewable from the angles you plan to use it in your cocktail.   Shame to have a custom cutout for a monitor that does not view well on its back.

yep, i've checked the lcd.  works great on the side/viewing angles as well.

i just don't want to fool with a crt, and took inspiration for the LCD from the maximumpc build a few years back.

Sounds like you have done your LCD homework.   Looking forward to seeing your build.

any ideas on a kit that's wood/available, like the arcade depot kit?

i mean, if i have to wait for it to come back up and running, then i do, but just looking at my options.

thanks!
