  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi

I upgraded an existing Win7 x64 instalaltion with MA to Win8. So far so good. everything was working perfectly, even text to speech has been improved.
Suddenly, MA crashes when a preview movie loads (all movies are avi).
The video also doesen't start in nice arcade cabinet, it opens in the middle of the screen.

On the Windows Event Log I see following error-message:
ntdll.dll 0xc0000005

After googling for that problem, I mostly see generic responses...

If I use MA without the preview movies, everything works fine. I have no idea what the problem might be...

Does MA use specific windows features such as .Net or some specific C++ distributionals?
Hope someone can help me, I still think MA is the coolest frontend :)

Regards

UPDATE: Shark007 Codec was the problem. After upgrading to the newest version, videos are working fine again :D
Thank you for the help guys!

I hope somebody else might find this post useful!

Have you tried installing a codec pack? I had to do this for an XP install, you can find one here http://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

Yes, I'm using Shark 007 as before.

But I'm using standard avi files, windows shouldnt even use the codec pack.

You're right it is a pretty nondescript error, it could be a number of things as vendors use it as well as Microsoft, have you downloaded your latest graphics drivers?
Also any reason you are using Windows 8 for your front end? I use XP on my Arcade machine as it's clean and stable and trouble free.

yeah, Drivers and updates are up to date.

The reason I use Win8: I use this machine mostly as Mediacenter in my livingroom and to play the latest pc-games. Also the upgrade from win7 was kinda cheap. Not that I like win8 particularly :D
The Frontend is perfect for launching pc games.

Still haven't found the issue tough....strange thing is, that it was working for a while on win 8....
I must have un/installed something in the meantime that breaks it :/
