Sideart Question
« on: December 17, 2012, 11:00:36 pm »
I'm thinking about changing the sideart on my cab.  If possible, however, I would like very much to preserve my current sideart before replacing it with a new one.  Is this at all feasible?  My current sideart is adhesive backed.

My other idea (and, yes, I'm aware that this may not make any sense at all) would be the place the new adhesive backed sideart directly over the old one.  Would the old sideart be noticeable underneath?  Would the new sideart even stick?

Ultimately, though, I would like to preserve the old sideart.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can sometimes pull off old sideart in one piece, however I have never had it come off clean enough to reapply without looking horrible. I have had it come off clean enough to hang on the wall though.

If you put the new sideart over the old then you will almost certainly be able to see the old through the new, and it will almost certainly ruin the artwork below. I have had multiple machines that had a couple layers of sideart and I have never been able to cleanly uncover a lower layer of sticker type sideart.

What is the sideart in question?

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

My current sideart is a modified version of the original Mario bros sideart.  I was fond of it 4 years ago, but it  doesn't quite fit the theme of my mame/console cab. I want something that looks "less busy" which contains just the name of my cab: the "GameMaster".

Ok, with custom print sideart like that it will certainly not survive being layered over (the ink will come right off). You may not even be able to pull it off fairly cleanly. Custom print stuff isn't always as thick as the oem stuff was. The sideart my wife prints for me is ultra thin.

On the plus side, since it isn't original sideart nothing is lost other than money if you can't save it.

Did you scratch build the cabinet? If so then you might just want to replace the whole side panels.
