Hi,
First post,
Iam currently working on my first build, and I want to have my control panel raise up by about an inch when turned on. Does anyone have experience of such a thing ??
Regards
Chance

Why not build it an inch higher? Just curious.

purely aesthetic reasons, I just like the idea of pressing a button and everything moves into place. The Monitor is going to be folded down and raise (know how to do that part) and I want my controls to rise up to take the space that the monitor was accommodating.

Linear actuator

+Pololu Simple Motor Controller

+guide rails (homemade?)
Pretty expensive thing just for slight asthetics.
It could be accomplished using the motion of the monitor being raised.
How do you plan to raise the monitor?

Piston hinges from a kitchen cabinet ,believe it will be strong enough. Be held under tension and simple switch to release so it rises

If you only want it to move an inch for the effect, i'd just hinge the front and have the back raise an inch.
Much easier to accomplish.

From your links you got us thinking what I could use from a car, however whilst googling came across an electric car jack which would be perfect. Hopefully be able to pick one up in the January sales

All I read was "hydraulics" and "use from a car"
Unfortunately this is all I can add on the subject but it should be plenty useful:
