Mala vertical video orientation problem
« on: December 16, 2012, 03:42:54 am »
Hi all,

I've been working on a cocktail arcade machine for about 6 months now (interface design for MALA + woodworking included) and decided to pickup a cheap small form factor PC to throw into the cabinet. Figured something that was tiny and had everything self contained was a LOT less messy than mounting a motherboard etc, so I went with a Dell Optiplex 980 and an ATI Radeon 2400 Pro video card. Specifically went with a cheap dual core because of the performance difference using Mame64 and clean non-dell win7 x64 over a cutdown version of XP.

So I got the interface running exactly how I wanted on my usual desktop, tested and tested everything... not a single issue, Mala was awesome to setup. Next I copy over Mala + the rest of the emulators/videos/screenies to the Dell, fires up beautifully... or so I thought.

To give some background, I've setup MALA to switch orientation if you hit the credit button, so that I can sit at either of the vertical ends and play all the vertical games, and 2 players next to eachother along the horizontal side for all the classics like TMNT, Street Fighter 2 etc. The videos on my usual PC switch orientation along with the screenshots, but on the Dell, the videos aren't, they're staying as horizontal  :-\

I've attached a screenshot to show what's going on. I first thought it might just be video drivers, so went through all of the ATI and windows standard drivers. No go. Then thought that it might possibly be a codec issue, but after a couple of different codec trials, still came up with no change. Even thought that it might be a DirectX issue or maybe I was missing a DLL, I'm totally stumped.

If anyone out there could shed some light on what might be causing it, I would definitely be grateful, I'm completely out of ideas :)

Thanks heaps in advance!

SOLVED: Just incase anyone else gets the same issue I did, after all my hardware and software tests it turned out to be something as simple as the codecs I had installed. I tried a couple of different packs and ended up trying the K-Lite Mega Codec pack on the off chance that maybe one of the options in there might work, and it did! Hope this helps someone else out there too  ;D
