Mint Mala Mamelist!
« on: December 12, 2012, 09:48:41 am »
I really don't want to have to acquire another MAME rom set. But I want a mint set, well I want my set to be mint. I am starring at Mame32 dead in the eye and I see the game list "Available", which is exactly what I want! But I can't for the life of me figure how to transfer this into a MalaFE gamelist.

I tried making a favorites folder in Mame32, to add all the games from the "Available" section. You can only add one game at a time or this would have worked beautifully!  :banghead:

Could have converted the new favorites list from a text file to "Romlister" and from there to a MalaFE gamelist.

Any ideas from the peanut gallery?

are you the same person I've been helping in email to do this with romlister?
I had 2 people in 1 day asking for a method of converting a favorites.ini file to something romlister could work with.  If you've not been emailing me (jeff, the author of romlister) then you are in fact the THIRD person in a 48 hour time span to ask about this, and I have never had this question come up in all the years I've been supporting romlister so far.  [insert eerie music here]

the good news: it's pretty easy to do, and you don't have to do any of it by hand.
the bad news: it's a few steps and somewhat time consuming.

you have to move all the roms from your favorites.ini list to a new folder (assuming you have a ton of other roms in your roms folder already that are not in your favorites list) then use romlister's rom scan utility to then match your favorite files against the master input xml file.  For the folks who contacted me, I converted their favorites.ini into a batch file to do this.

throw me a PM or email (contact info is on the romlister home page) and i'll get you through it.

Thanks for being so vigilant! I have not contacted you outside of a thread, so not me.

My issue wasn't converting the .ini to mala gamelist....well not specifically. It was to convert the Available gamelist from Mame32 to mala. But to do that first I needed to add all of the "available" games to the favorites folder. Which can only be done one at a time, and I wasn't about to do this.

Good news is that I found a new rom set that is mint. Not extensive, about 1,440 games. And that is way more than I need. Thanks for the awesome program NOP! I will use it to sort through the games I have in the new set.
