Help with Mala
« on: December 11, 2012, 04:55:07 pm »
I am wondering if Mala has built in this functionality

- To remove games which you don't have controls for
- To remove clones. I could have swore I saw this before, but I can't find it now

Mala can't permanently delete any games from your harddrive (Roms) given your controls or any other criteria but you can edit your gamelist(s) to include or not include certain games. I have game lists for: Lightgun game, Fighting game, Golden Age - Arcade, Trackball games, 4 player games, 2 player games, etc, etc.

You can create any number of games lists and once a game list is established you can just right click on a game and delete if from the list (not your harddrive).

If you want to REALLY isolate and remove games from your collection based on controls or nearly any other criteria I would suggest you use a rom sorting program. My favorite is "RomLister"

I used RomLister to delete Mahjong, Casino, Adult, Non-working, Mechanical, Pinball (rom only) games from my harddrive. It's great once you get the hang of it.

For info on how I built the software setup for my cabinet, see here:

+1 on romlister

First, use it to regenerate a master list, removing all the crap that you wouldn't ever play, don't have roms for (mahjong cough cough), or don't have a control panel applicable to.

then, use it to create a few sub lists of specific types (sports, shmups, etc).

It might take some playing with, but it's not too tough to work with.

For the 2nd question, you just check "Only Masters".
http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Mala_Config#Basics

It won't delete them, but it will prevent them from showing up in your all games list.
Keep in mind that Pacman is a clone (puckman is the parent).
You can make Mala think it is a parent by changing the xml file.

Awesome info guys! I should have specified that by remove, I meant remove from the game list. I think I'm in good shape now. Thanks!
