Game control stuttering Multiple games, confused.
« on: December 11, 2012, 03:55:51 pm »
Hi all,

I'm having some odd issues with game control inputs stuttering in multiple emulators which leads me to believe that the problem may lie in my iPac v2.
It's as if someone is spamming some keys many times a second and causing lag in the emulation, sometimes it gets so bad you can't control your character in the game you are playing.

I know it's a key spam/input issue as my buttons all flash whenever a key is clicked and they will freak out flashing many times a second when it gets into this situation. I have turned off LEDBlinky to make sure that isn't causing the issue. Also I am confident that it isn't a system specs problem, I'm running a Sandybridge Dual Core 2.4ghz CPU, 8GB Ram on 64bit and a new Nvidia Kepler based graphics card. The fact that this problem effects all emulators including Mame and Visual Pinball again leads me to believe something is going on with the actual inputs to the system.

Possibly a loose wire?

Check your grounds?  May see if one is loose or touching another wire.

If it's not a particular button, I'd start with the ground.
Sometimes my crimp job on connectors that have two wires going into them sucks.
I've gotten much better about it.

Not that it applies here, but I've downloaded a non-official MAME build in the past that had auto-fire enabled by default.  (even for the joystick!)

Thanks I will check these things, certainly sounds like a strong possibility.

Also on another note, how do i stop all my buttons flashing off then back on with each keypress? It's a tad seizure inducing

Well I fixed it, and it wasn't what I thought at all. It was LED Blinky, which I thought I had taken out of the equation in my testing but I guess I missed something. There's a setting which flashes all the buttons on a key press, this was turned on and was firing rapidly when mashing buttons in games like 1942 and even pinball. The flashes were basically stacking up in the processes and dragging the computer down, disabled the flash setting (which I didn't want on anyway) and all seems well so far.
