Boot to game solutions?
« on: December 07, 2012, 01:20:29 pm »
Are there any hardware emulation solutions that will boot straight to the game of my choice upon powerup? No post screens, no weird company logos -- just straight to the game (as quickly as possible, of course).

1.  windows? Yes?  hide windows via the measures on the wiki here.
2.  Mame?  yes?  compile with no nag patch.
3.  write autoexec.bat to run mame with rom name argument supplied, place in root of system drive.
4.  Profit.

Thanks for your input.

Those are all great suggestions. Also looking for a solution that:

1. has no post screen or logos (the bios/boot screen junk).
2. boots faster than that would all take.

To hide windows, read the wiki. The program that I use is called "InstantSheller"

Only certain motherboards are able to change the bios boot screen. You need to edit the bios update files before applying the patch, I successfully did this on an old IBM laptop months ago

Your motherboard might have a BIOS option to ditch/edit the boot screens.

Alt method use a time delay relay to power on the monitor-- it won't go faster, but you don't have to see the boot screens.

To speed things up, have you looked into:
1. Using a solid-state drive (SSD)
2. TinyXP
3. Newer motherboard/processor
