Model 2 help
« on: November 28, 2012, 12:46:40 am »
I have been trying to run model 2 version 10, and every time I click the exe I get an error message saying that the program needs to shut down immediately (the kind that asks if you want to send an error report). The roms that I am trying to run are in place (i initially was missing a few, but I tracked them down). Could this be some sort of direct x issue? I am pretty sure that I have direct x 9c loaded. By the way, I am running xp pro with an AMD 64 cpu and 4 gb ram. Thanks.

I can't imagine why it would crash before even launching a game.  ???

Shot in the dark, but did you download it from somewhere other than the nebula website?
Could be someone elses settings already in the cfg file aren't compatible with your setup.

Pretty sure you have Directx9 loaded?
I don't remember the specifics about Model 2, but you'll need these runtimes for some other emulators, so you might as well go ahead and install them.

Or if the PC isn't connected to the web:

So I just installed those runtimes, and now model 2 actually loads up. However, now the emulator crashes when I try to change it to full screen. It also crashes when I double click to change the controls. I'm baffled. I had model 2 running fine before my previous HDD crashed.

It could be anything, but my guess would be the gfx drivers. Try another version and see if that helps.

See: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,128929.0.html concerning it crashing when you click to change the controls.

For it crashing when you go fullscreen, try changing the resolution and video settings in the .cfg file or try version .9

I reverted back to a version 9 exe that I was able to salvage off of a non-working HDD, and it works. I am still, however, having a problem with the control setup. This is actually the same problem that I was unable to solve from back in the day. The problem is that the exe crashes whenever I try to click on any of the analog controls. This means that I am unable to map my spinner to steering in daytona USA.

Did you try unplugging all your controls but one per the thread linked above?

Spinners aren't technically analog and cannot be mapped for steering in M2emulator anyway  :P
You can use a mousetojoy type program to create a fake analog joystick and go about it that way.
