Gauntlet (1) Machine Not Working-New to Arcade Cadinets...
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:51:24 pm »
So I was told to come here if I had any questions so here goes. About two years ago I bought a Gauntlet machine for $25. It sat in my garage until we moved and I could bring it in the basement. Well, it had a number of issues...

1) Wrong players in wrong spots-Fixed
2) Elf not moving left-Fixed
3) Warrior and Elf start button not working-fixed
4) Warrior not moving left-Fixed

Those were all easy fixes, just checking the wiring but I think I have two more issues.

1) The wizards start button doesn't work when I click on it. When I flipped the control board, it works if I push the metal pieces together. When I am pushing the buttons, the metal pieces are coming together but it isn't registering a hit.
2) I think, and I could be wrong, the sound might not be working properly. It has music and sound effects but no audio. If I remember correctly from my childhood, it used to say when a player needs food? Am I wrong there.

Again, I am now so sorry if my lingo is wrong, but any help you might have would be awesome. I can take pictures of anything if needed.

Welcome aboard, NJSIII.

For the wizards start button, try this:

With power off, open the panel and connect your multimeter leads where the wires connect to the switch.

In ohms/continuity mode, the meter should indicate a short/continuity when you press the button.

If the meter reads more than 1-2 ohms when you push the button, you probably need to clean the contacts.

If pushing the button doesn't close the contacts, you may need to gently bend the blades of the leaf switch closer.

As far as the synthesized voice saying, "Warrior needs food badly" and other phrases, you do remember right.

I'm not certain, but there may be some minor corrosion between the socket and the legs of the ROM with those sounds.

Carefully pulling and reseating that ROM may scrape through that corrosion.
