Samurai showdown: Edge Destiny - ATI graphics, Taito TypeX
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:00:12 pm »
I'm running this game on my cab from the Taito Type X "emulator" and the fighter swords are not visible.  There is a faint outline but it looks like they are pretend fighting since the swords are not visible.  I've seen some YouTube videos where the swords appear to be visible.  Can anyone speculate if this is maybe a bad game dump that I have or is it another ATI graphics issue??

Probably your video card.  If your video card software allows it, try turning off all the filters and stuff for that exe.
I have an older nvidia card and it looks fine on mine.

The only issue I have is part of the plane is missing in Raiden III, but I'm pretty sure it's that way for everyone.

Did you or the person you got it from change the controls using a hex editor?
Maybe they changed the wrong thing and screwed something up.  ???

Thanks.  I'll see what I can do. I don't have the ATI control center software on my arcade pc. It was taking the focus away from my frontend when I started everything up so I just deleted it.  I am running the game through arcadepc loader so it works with GameEx.  The loader has an option to map the controls.

BTW, I am using an ATI HD 5670

Ughhhh!!!!! :banghead: I just confirmed that it is my graphics card, the Radeon HD5670.  I ran the game on my laptop, thich also has an ATI card and I had the same graphics issue.  So I switched my laptop to power save mode which then uses the built in Intel gpu and ran the game and it looked perfect!

So my new question is, has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know which setting to change on my GPU?  I have played around with a few of the settings and it seems to make no difference.

No answer yet.  This also seems to be an issue with BlazBlue Continuim Shift.  The graphics are messed up/missing/invisible in this game a lot too with the ATI card.  So if anyone has found an ATI solution for that game, perhaps the same settings could help in Samurai Shodown as well.

ArcadePc Loader has a fix for SamSho's grafic bugs. Problem is I can't integrate it into hyperspin...

Not sure if it's what you're experiencing, but I had an issue with BlazBlue (Nvidia card though) and it was corrected by turning off anti-aliasing.
I've read it can't be forced off on some ATI cards.
It wasn't so much missing things as it was transparent garbage overtop everything, so it may be a different issue.

Could you please tell me more?  I am using arcadepc loader v1.4 and I am not seeing anything in the settings for this fix.

It's supposed to work on it's own... I couldn't try as it's not working with my romset. I'll get another one and report back. Can you start SamSho from 1.4 and there are still bugs? I just read that someone from a german board did that and it worked for him.

Yes I can start SamSho in my version 1.4 and I'm still having the graphic issues.  Do I not have the right romset for this to work with?  The thing is, the exact same rom works with no glitches on my laptop with the Intel onboard GPU.  So I have to assume it is my graphics card/drivers/settings.  I spent a few hours last night and a few more today changing all of my GPU settings.  My GPU driver is the most current available.  I feel as though I'm running out of options.......is anyone running this game with an ATI card and not having the graphics issues?  If so would you be willing to post which drivers you are using and your settings?

There are no roms.  :banghead:
It's an arcade game that ran on a standard PC with embedded XP.
It's a windows game running on your windows PC.
You don't even need ArcadePC Loader to play it.

Well thats right, it's just that there are different hacked versions of some of the games out there. So its not a Rom but still a set. Mine came with no game.exe at all but with the loader preinstalled. You need to do quite some work to get them working in hyperspin and have to use custom bat files and game.exes to display and exit right.

I'm using the crt emu driver which is based of the 9.2 version ati driver to display native resolutions in Mame. Hope someone will be able to make it work with ati's as I've read about some success with arcadepc loader.

Yes, poor choice of words there. I am aware of that. My question was is it possible my copy of the game had been corrupted or is somehow missing a file that is on other versions.

Anyways, I guess I can chalk another one up to ATI GPU issues.  Just tried this on a friend's pc running Nvidia GT610 and it displayed perfectly.  The GT 610 seemed to play the game a little slow but the graphics were all in tact. As far as i can tell my only option is to get an Nvidia card.....  I have heard they work better for emulation anyways and that is all I do on my arcade cab.

Well actually ATI's work much better with the CRT Drivers for creating modelines and compatibility... the only thing until now that isn't working for me is this.

Wait...  Back up for a sec. There's an emu for Raiden III?

I own the standalone PC version (rare English), but I didn't realize there was an emulated version floating around.

My version runs perfectly on my ATI card.

Yes there is.  It runs on Taito type X/X2 arcade hardware which was a pc with WinXP embedded. So this "emulator" runs about 24 games or so. Raiden III is one of them and I also believe Raiden IV is on that list. My ATI card runs most of the games i have just fine. There are 2 games that I can't get the ATI card to display properly.  Samurai Shodown and BlazBlue Continuing Shift.

Well, until now it seems as there is simply no fix then. This really bugs me... love Samsho!
