Mame32 wont load if sound is selected.PLease help

I am very close to finishing my project except for one problem, If I select sound enable and run a game my pc freezez up, if I change the settings to no sound I can play any game... I am runing a pc 16 sound blaster. Can some body please tell me what am I doing wrong or what audio card I need... Thank you in advance :'(
