Vertical Baby Pacman on Cocktail Table
« on: November 02, 2012, 07:57:24 pm »
Hey guys, this is a pretty niche question but I'd like to play Baby Pacman on my cocktail machine using Visual Pin Mame. Here are the problems I'm having:

- Most virtual tables are horizontally oriented which won't work for my cocktail set up.

-  The one vertical virtual table I found looks like it requires a second monitor so the first monitor displays the table and the second displays the pacman game.

I'd like a vertical virtual table and the video game to be on the same screen.

Any suggestions?

What version of the table do you currently have?

Unclewilly has a FS version here that you might be able to move/resize onto one screen.

You might be able to mod Kristian's 4:3 VP9 version.  Alternate download location here. (I'm having trouble DL'ing from vpforums right now.)

Your best source for how to mod the tables is at http://www.vpforums.org/

Scott

EDIT:  The Unclewilly 4:3 version here might be a better version to mod.  No need to move the backglass and no siderails like in the Kristian version.

Thanks Scott!  Is it fairly simple to mod tables?  I've never tried.  Also, do you know if you can rotate vp 9 tables and displays?  One solution would be to rotate it and have black bars at the top and bottom.  I'm using vp 8 and haven't played around much with 9.  Again, thanks fro your help!

Simple mods like moving a post so the outlane is smaller or changing the backglass are easy.

Not sure how to properly mod tables to change from 4:3 to FS.  The adjustments I've tried on this table either didn't work or broke the table.  :(

Your best bet might be to contact Unclewilly at VP Forums and ask him.  He's the author of this table and many others.  He might be willing to make and release a FS single screen cocktail mod.

The other possibility is that if you successfullly mod the table, he might give you permission to release it.  You can mod tables without the author's permission, but you can't release/distribute the mod without permission and crediting the original author.

If you try to do the mod yourself, I'd start with the FS version.
There is a line in the script that will allow you to rotate the DMD by removing the comment marks.
Insert the backglass above the playfield.
You may need to resize the table dimensions and change the offsets as needed.   :dunno

More progress on the subject of modding the Unclewilly FS table.

NOTE:  The changes I describe below are not to be considered an official or unofficial MOD release of the Unclewilly FS table -- I am simply documenting some settings that I have changed and the effect that they have so others may make their own personal mods at their own discretion and for their own personal use.

Launch the Visual Pinball program then open the table to make the following edits.
The table will be rotated 270 degrees from the image shown in the editor.
Make one or two changes at a time and when those are set right, save and move to the next setting.

To rotate DMD:
Left side of screen, click on the "Script" icon.
Line 43 - Delete the ' at the beginning of the line and change ("rol") = 0 to ("rol") = 1
Menu - Script - Compile
It should only take a second or two to compile.
When it finishes, close the script window.

To resize and re-position the playfield:
Left side of screen, select both the "Options" and "Backdrop" icons
On the right side under "Colors & Formatting" adjust these settings
 - X Scale (reduce as desired)
 - Y Scale (reduce as desired)
 - X Offset (probably doesn't need to change)
 - Y Offset (add ~100 to the current value for starters)

To reposition the DMD, simply click, drag, and drop.

These adjustments should get you well on your way to a playable (and successful?) mod of this table.

Edit:  Attached a backglass extracted from the 4:3 table and cropped.  Save this (or better one if you can find it) to your HDD.
Menu - Table - Image Manager. . .
Click on Import (upper right) and navigate to where you saved the backglass.
Close the Image Manager.
With the Backdrop icon deselected so you can see the playfield outline, select the "Decal" icon.
Click a little way above the playfield to place a decal.
With the new decal selected, set Image=backglass, Width=940, and Height=950 on the right. (resize as needed)

To resize the front of the CP, select the Backdrop Icon, and click on the blue bar on the right.  On the right, Image should read "cpFront".  Adjust size and position as desired or delete it so you have more room.

This should cover pretty much everything you need to mod the table.
