Wanted: HDD
« on: October 28, 2003, 04:34:41 pm »
Hey, does anyone have a hard drive they can part with? I am looking for something about 60GB and up.

I am checking eBay as well.

Thanks!  ;D

Not to be obvious, but why don't you just pick one up from newegg since you're looking for something in a newer capacity?

I need something that is only ATA100, as that's all my board will take. Most new stuff I find is like ATA133 and 200gb, etc..   I don't quite need that much. Just asking if anyone has something used, perhaps they upgraded to something HUGE, and have an extra HDD lying around.

I have an 80GB Western Digital Special Edition (8mb cache) http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?edc=500071 that I'm selling for $80 + shipping if anyone wants it.

It is a new retail packaged drive, I sent in some rebates and never opened it.

I'll be upfront and say that you can probably get it for $5 to $10 cheaper after rebate(s) but I've already gone through the trouble of sending them in (I just don't need the drive).

I have a hard time getting anyone to give me a 2 gig harddrive.  Then again, there are some generous folks on this forum.

Yeah. I wasn't asking for a freebie. Just a deal on a used drive.

Weiner, these are $73.50 new from newwegg.com with free shipping. Sorry.

Can anyone back this up? If so, I might just go buy a Maxtor ATA133 drive. But i swear they require an ATA133 card.

Thanks for the replies thus far!

There backward compatable, the only problem you should have is if you pick a drive that is to big for your bios.

Don't be sorry, that's not the same drive.  I was trying to be upfront about the price/value of the drive, I happen to like helping people find good deals on hardware.  The retail price on the retail drive is $109.  I know I saw a $30 rebate somewhere, but I can't find it now.  That would make it $79, but some people just don't like/do rebates or don't want to wait 10 to 20 weeks to get the $30 back (20 weeks when you have to fax in copies of everything just to get the rebate approved).

If that drive would help anyone out at that price, then I'd be happy to send it to them.  If you want it a little cheaper, then make me an offer.  If just want a bare drive in a white box with no instructions, cables, etc then Newegg is a good place to go.

I'll let you know if I hear about anyone selling a old 60GB hard drive for cheap.

Regarding the ATA133/ATA100 thing, yes, they're backwards compatible.  You can easily run an ATA133 drive on a ATA100 connection, but the performance will be at ATA100 level.

Gotta be cautious of pricewatch though sometimes....been burned by some of the retailers on pricewatch...also be advised that most of the companies on pricewatch are the same home company, just different website names.

I ordered a hard drive from one of the "companies" on pricewatch and later found out that the company was under investigation by the FBI for internet fraud......
