I have been working for some time on a Galaga themed cabinet for my wife's cousin.

It is nearly complete and will be delivered on November 1st.

Here is a picture of the CP with the Galaga inspired art.

Here is shot with the LED's working. The yellow config button can be disabled by a hidden switch. The led indicates that it is active.

Here is a different angle. I know the knob is not authentic, but it works well. The flanged bearings were bought at Ace hardware and the fit in a 1-1/8 hole. You can also see the 1/4" + 3/4" two layer top construction that I use.

Here is a picture of the marquee. This was a test print done at home. I picked up the real sign tonight at Kinko's. It looks fantastic.

Tomorrow night I will add the front bezel, and the slanted panel on the back, drop in the marquee and it will be done! the I get to dis-assemble it into it's three main pieces(top, bottom, and CP) so that I can deliver it.

I must say, that cab is classssy, although I'd make it for fighters, I wouldnt mind havin it in my arcade. Very nice work on the control panel, what'd you use for those graphics? Looks perfectly flush with the rest of the wood.

I just love the marquee and the overall classic theme of the cab! Very nice work!

I'm more into newer fighter games but i like the style of the older cabs much more. Maybe i'll try something similar.

Yie-Ar Kung Fu was newest fighter when I stopped hanging out in arcades, and the guy that I built this for is a few years older than me.

The CP graphics were created by me using Adobe Illustrator, and printed at home on matte photo paper. I used 3m 77 spray adhesive to apply them to the CP. Then I brushed on eight thin coats of water based polyurethane. If you run four fingers acros the surface, you can feel a slight step at the edge of the paper.

I created the marquee in Illustrator. (Thanks go to 3dmacman and Zorg for saving me many hours of work on the space ship). I then took the file to Kinkos and had them print it out for me. They had it ready in 24 hours, and they got it right the very first time, for only $15.53.

Looks great. The graphics on the CP are awesome.

Are those Happ trigger sticks? After reading about how disappointing the tron joysticks from Happ are, I'm thinking I'll save some cash and get one of these instead. How do you find them to play with?

Bomber, those are the Happ Top Fire Super Joysticks. I think the work very well. The base is the same as the regular supers and can be installed as 8-ways or 4-ways by flipping the hourglass thing on the bottom.

Here is one more picture of the fully assembled cab.

I know the monitor is small, but that is all he has right now. I'm sure he will upgrade it before too long.

but the monitor is a little small in comparsion...
makes it looks a little funny....

I hope you'll change to a bigger monitor later on...

Hyiu, read the caption above the last picture. I'm sure that he will eventually upgrade the monitor and the 200mhz PC as well.

The monitor didn't look too bad until I made the bezel panel. I have some instruction cards to put on either side of the monitor. Hopefully they will help disguise all that empty space.

How was the plywood to work with--Is it much lighter than a comparable MDF cab do you think? Just as easy to work with I assume? Don't get me wrong MDF is easy to work with but plywood seems more show friendly when all is said and done.

Only the control panel is plywood. The cabinet itself is MDF.

Plywood does tend to be lighter than MDF, but the good quality oak veneer plywood that I used is fairly heavy.

Yeah that looks awesome! Great finish and artwork, especially the CP! Can't always get everything at once (monitors are $$$) but at least you left room for a big one for upgrading. Nice job.

Beautiful job....especially on the control panel. But please...I beg you....go out NOW and buy at least a 19" monitor. CompUSA just had a 4 hour special for a 19" for $99!....

You should also check, BestBuy, Circuit City or Radio Shack...all of them sell returned items at a discount.......usually a very big discount. You're really not doing your hard work justice!

I agree the monitor is too small, but it is not my cabinet, I built it for someone else. He has already started looking for another monitor for it.

I delivered GioCade to it's new home last night. It went back together very easily. It was a good thing i didn't make the lower half any taller. It just barel squeezed in the rear door of my Caravan.

It was a big hit with his kids.
