betson PS2 trackball probs
« on: October 24, 2003, 12:11:50 pm »
I picked up one of those ps2 betson trackballs, but it doesn't seem to recognize in XP.  Do I need any sort of special driver to make it work?  My MS PS2 mouse works fine...

Also, the ball spins great going up or left, but when I go down or right it 'jumps' a little bit up off the rollers.  This is annoying but I can't seem to figure out how to prevent it.  The bearings and roll seem to be spin ok, anyone else have this prob??

I have two of those track balls.

I have not tried them with XP, they work just fine in 98se.

I have noticed the jumping, but only when I try to roll it with my finger tips near the outer edge of the ball. I have not figured out a solution other than keeping my fingers near the center of the ball.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!

I opened my Betson 3" PS2 trackball and there were four thin washers that had been used as shims on the screw posts.

I tried putting it back together without the shims.

The jumping problem is gone!

You might want to check out yours and see if it has the shims.  It might work better without them, or possibly thinner shims.
