« on: October 23, 2003, 06:09:05 am »

I've finished the woodworking on my cabinet. Next step on the list is Painting.
From what I've read arround, the best finishing is achieved with pistol painting so I bougth a little air compressor (24 l) and it came with the painting set and other accessories. As it was in a promotion I belive it was a fair price for all (89,95

Your best bet would probably be an alkyd primer.  Use a thin coat, sand it after drying, and repeat.

It's a solvent based primer, not water based.  Here's an example of one:
Benjamin Moore Fresh Start Int/Ext All Purpose Alkyd Primer
That's what I would recomend.   8)

Hope this helps you.

Did you buy the spray gun to paint on side art (like an airbrush) or just to paint the primer and base color (e.g. black).

Hi,

Thanks for your help ... I'm not an expert on painting jobs ... anyway answering the last question, ... I bought it to do all the painting ... not just the primer. Why ? Anything I should be aware of ?

Nope, I've been toying with the idea of painting my own sideart but I'm not sure I have the skills to pull it off, I want it fancy.

I see what you mean ... anyway ... I've not yet decided if I'll put sideart on in, but if I decide to do it, I'll supply the equipment but it sure ain't gone be me a do the painting  :)
I have a cousin who is very good on that ... he even has a specific set of "little" pistols for the job ... he does helmut (don't know if it's sppeled like that) painting ...
