Have you seen my cabinet?  is your layout simular?  Have  a pic?

I have my ctrlr files for mame setup so normally the buttons are
123
456

But for trackball games I have
XX4
123
as I don't like reaching over the bottom row of buttons when using the tball.

This is my first crack at a CP so I am assuming configuring the damn thing to be a dufficult task.  Ideally I would want to use the Player 1 bottom 3 buttons of my 6 button layout for use with the trackball.  Therefore, I would be using the trackball with my right hand and any necessary button presses with my left (is it possiblt to also configure the bottom 3 buttoms of the Player 2 side to do the same thing for left0handers?).  Having little experience with playing with spinners (I have played spinner-compatible games but with a joypad) what hand do you use it with (I'm a right hander).  Do some spinner games require buttons to also be pressed?

Most games either had the buttons on the left side or on both sides of the tball or spinner.

I also have to note that for my control panel I have a switch for the bottom row of buttons to switch player 1 buttons 1 and 2 to the left and right mouse button.  This is just switched when in windows/linux.  I have setup my mame ctrlr files to accept either though.

Setting up the controls for mame isn't if you use the ctrlr files.

If you go to http://hem.passagen.se/robert.palmqvist/Downloads/downloads.html you can download a neat little tool that will show you which controls different games use.

Most trackball/spinner games with buttons had the buttons on the left and the trackball or spinner on the right from memory. If they didn't use buttons, they tended to be in the centre so either hand could be used.

If you're not used to one way or another I'd recommend knocking up a test panel and see what is most comfortable.
