Last week I won a lot of 5 joysticks for $9.99
one of them is just like that, two are strange analog sticks with rubber centering thingys, one is an old wico microswitch stick and the last is a tiny 4-way stick- not sure what machine its from.
I didn't even know what I was bidding on, the image link of the sellers eBay page was broken. Not a bad deal at all. i

I have three of them, but haven't tried them on a cab yet. Quality wise they seem quite close to the Wico leaf stick they were patterned after. Since they had a diamond shaped hole I think they're better suited for use as 4 ways than as 8 ways.

and the wico leafs are good? most of my games are 4 way, but some are 8. im not going to be using them for any preformance 8 way games like street fighter, so thats not a problem, un less it a major thing.

does it have smooth and good movement?

That's a matter of feel mostly. Just about all of the golden aged games used Wico sticks, the newer games use microswitch sticks. Depending on which you grew up playing, the other type feel odd. (I'm old school, I hate microswitch joysticks) As far as durability, the Wico sticks are rebuildable and quite a few are still going strong after 20+ years of use.

great. then ill buy them. they do have a 30 day money back gaurentee, anyways. and ill save me some cash. and youre right, the only thing i really wornd need to replace would be the switches.

how do they do as 8 way? how do they switch back and forth?

They come with two different plastic pieces that go on the bottom of the metal shaft. One's a bit thicker, and using it will make contact with two of the leaf switches when you press towards a diagonal. This'll give you the other 4 directions making the stick function as an 8 way.

You can change out the pieces making it function either way, but it's not as quick or easy as the switchable sticks like Happ's ultimate.

I figure it will function fine for 8 way games where you don't "roll" the stick, but I would find a real Wico 8 way for games like Time Pilot or Gyruss.

Well the proper stick for Gyruss is a Monroe, but 8 way Wico sticks aren't that hard to come by. JColeman had some in Buy/Sell/Trade recently, check to see if he has any more.

I spoke to him maybe 2 days ago and he said he just received some new ones.  They are great sticks by the way.
As for the guy who started  this thread.. I feel your pain.. checked on an auction I was winning before leaving work for 4 leaf-switch sticks.. got home and they were sniped out from under me (mind you at about twice the price).
Stupid ebay.... they really should extend auctions at least 10 minutes past the last bid.. a bit closer to the way live auctions work.
Oh well :P

Hehe.  I just sniped a tron control panel for $76.  5 seconds left.  I am so proud.   ;)

Actually, I'm just happy to finally get one of these things for less than $100 -- which they've been going for lately.

I recommend auctionsniper.com to everyone.  It is well worth it.
