Happs trackball: Why the green grounding wires?

I installed my highlip happs trackball. The green ground wires that connect to the outside of the case in 2 places are NOT connected.

In fact, since I had to uninstall the trackball to change the ball, I took the ground wires off completely,... and it still works. Are they there for a reason? Part of some super secret circuit? Static electricity grounding?

I was wondering the same thing.  Maybe I'll call Happ about it.  Mine isn't connected either, and it's working.

I had asked a couple of tech's about that green wire and they said it is just a safe way to get rid of any static build-up. Safer to channel static to ground than having it zap the opto boards.

And if I recall Happ is the only one with grounding wires.

In most cases grounding is not needed. Its just a safety feature. I wouldn't worry about it not being connected.

FWIW, my 3" Betson also has a grounding wire.  My wico 3" and 2 1/4" don't.  [shrug] I haven't hooked the grounding wires, but I don't have a carpet floor and 100 people using the TB, building up that much static.

Maybe the grounding wire is just in case somebody comes up and rolls the trackball using rabbit fur gloves in the middle of winter.
