Lightguns with Glass or Plexigass Bezels
« on: October 15, 2003, 01:01:02 am »
Hi all,

I am planning to build/modify a cabinet dedicated to console lightgun games, and I wanted to have a clear glass or plexiglass bezel in front of the monitor (about 1 foot away from one another).  My concern was the the lightguns' beams would possibly be negatively affected by the glass' reflection by becoming less accurate.  Can anyone answer my concern?

Thank in advance!

Hmm, I'm curious about this too really... but I will know within this week when I get my Bio-Gun from Liksang.com! Answer is yet to come :)

Unless your plexi is tinted, I doubt it would have any effect.  Your lightgun is a light sensor, not a light emitter.  All it sees is the white flash coming from the screen, which will be brighter than any ambient reflections off the plexi.

Ok my bezel is very old and made of plexi so it has a scratch or two.  I can't notice any loss of accuracy using it.  Using the new tv guns btw.

I don't think you'd have any problems unless the plexi is so scratched and pitted that it refracts and blurs the image.  And, the light guns were designed to work even on a TV with a lower brightness, so tinted plexi should work too.  (it's just like turning the brightness down a few notches, right?)

I've used my PC version USB with tinted plexi.  It seems to work just as well with or without the tinted plexi.  I've never been really impressed with the accuracy regardless if there was plexi in front of it or not, tho.   :P

well, i got it working now. stupid me didnt have the button set as mouse1.

and the accuracy is pretty good as far as im concerned. i have the TV guns and you have to start the game and calibrate to the edge of the gaming screen, not the edge of the TV.
it works great, and the bar(s) around the edge are the reload area. although the reload does suk so far. im still trying to figure out wtf the button on the gun is far. and all ive played is area51

The button on the gun is mouse button 2.  It's used for reload in some games.  I believe that when you fire off screen mouse button 2 is also pressed.  So I guess it's kind of useless.
