Any idea where to get this type of hinge?
« on: October 14, 2003, 10:27:44 pm »
On my Neo-Geo conversion cabinet, the control panel has three of this kind of hinge underneath the front - they're at a 90 degree angle, offset by 3/4 inch.  I kind of like this idea, since it seems sturdier than using a piano hinge.  Unfortunately, I can't find these ANYWHERE.  Any ideas?

looks like a normal hinge that spent some quality time with a vice and a hammer.

I've seen such hinges in the stores.  I think it was in my local Ace hardware store, since I doubt it was HomeDepot.  But bending a normal hinge shouldn't be too hard. [shrug]

Woodcraft is a good source for hardware and any woodworking stuff. They overcharge a bit but you can find it all on line or through their catalog.

You could make one of these in less than 5 minutes with a vice and hammer as previously stated.

Woodcraft or Rockler should have them on-line.

I've also seen these at Home Depot.  Find the section with all the cabinet hardware (pulls, hinges, magnets, etc...)  It should be a fairly standard 3/4" offset door hinge.

I was just at Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Menards and Lowes looking for this type of hinge.  I could not find any.  I did see some that might be modified like that.

I did find the Rockler carries a similar hinge. Flange Hinge

Lowes has this hinge: Concealed Hinge. This worked very well for me, but would not work in the situation that you show in that picture.

I have two similiar hinges that I stripped off my cabinet when I remade the control panel.  They are a little beat up and a bit wider than the ones shown in the picture, but I'm not using them.  If you want them let me know.

Sasquatch,

I should have added that Rockler has a store in Schaumburg! Not to far from Naperville.

There is a second one in Tinley Park.

ErikRuud: Hm, I might have to look into those.  Thanks for the tip!

Pungo76: Thanks for the offer, but I'm gonna look around for something new.  Thanks again, though!

Sasquatch,

Go to American Science and Surplus Typer Corner Hinge into the search box.   think these may work for you.  It should be the third item in the results list.

AS$S is in Geneva just east of Kirk RD (AKA Farnsworth) and Rte 38.

I stopped at AS&S on my way home from work.

I was going to by a piano hinge for $3.95.  You can't beat that price.

I decided to look at the corner hinges while I was there.  They look like they will do the job, but right next to them the have another hing that is very similar to the one you show in that picture.  They are $0.35 each!

I bought two of them and they work great.

If you go there, the hinges are near the back left corner of the store.

That was your answer when I asked you where to find a 13" monitor!  I'll let you know that 19" tube never did work right after that...
