download cover art
« on: October 13, 2003, 02:58:24 pm »
Are there programs to download cover art automatically, or almost automatically, form a list of MP3 directories on my machine?
I've ripped my entire CD collection to MP3s and I don't really want to invest the time in scanning every single one of them (my scanner is dog slow). I could go on Amazon, lookup each CD and save the enlarged picture cover from these but it's still extremenly manually intensive.

Are there better ways?

Virtual Music Jukebox has a built in feature to scan your entire hard drive for music files...organize them into /artist/album directories and automatically download album covers for albums.

Tried the demo and it doesn't work for me: it did "reorganize" my music folder but didn't download any album covers and when I select to view "all music" it uses the same directory for all 6 albums.

I have used AlbumGrabber:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/albumgrabber/

to get covers. It's semi-automated. You give it a directory or directories then it presents you with a bunch of covers and you pick the one you want.

The homepage to DL isn't very reliable - if anyone wants it email em and I can post it on my site for you
