Dual PSX to USB Convertor Question
« on: October 13, 2003, 01:16:10 am »
I'm currently in the process of building my PSX arcade rig for mainly playing just Marvel vs Capcom 2 on my PS2. I also want to use it to play my mame games to play, Marvel vs Capcom, the other vs games and all the good mame games I have.

My question is... are the Level Six PS-USB Dual Convertor on the following link:
http://www.levelsix.com/products/pc/PS-USB_DualConvertor.shtml
compatible with Mame32? ie. if I connect the convertor to both my PSX connectors on my arcade rig both pads should work, after I install the drivers and do some config'ing of the buttons right?

Anyone has this exact convertor in use or something who can tell me how good this exact product is?

there's a mame option, something like "enable joystick input" that you have to set when you do PSX adapters / gameport hacks / anything other than keyboard encoders or hacks.  Other than that you're fine.

BTW, if you've got any DDR in you, go for the EMS USB2.  DDR pads won't work right with adapters that output the d-pad as axes only.
There is SO a spoon.

No I don't do DDR, I find that that is too queer for me.
Though I'm Asian and saying that is almost redudant, I should play, cuz of the hot asian girls who play it  ;D

But I'm a fighter, I play my Fighting games, so I don't really need the other adapter for DDR, as I know I won't be playing it on my computer, as if I wanted to play DDR, I'd play it on my brother' PS2 where he already has 2 pads and the games. Besides if I really wanted to play DDR, I'd make my own near authentic DDR pad and just run it off my PS2.

Neways thx for the reply, and I'll place an order for that adaptor now.

mame just uses DirectInput to read in input (hence all the trouble tryign to get dual mice in XP working).

As long as DirectInput can see it mame can see it.  Which mean as long as it shows up in windows control panel it shows up.

Man, PSX DDR is weak :)  Stepmania is awesome hence comment by the others that if you go that route be warned you have to get the right adaptor.  I don't play DDR in public.  It's a great work out though.
