Any IPAC-4 setup wizards out there ? Quick question:
« on: October 22, 2012, 10:20:49 am »
Ok.. so I have everythng hooked up... and only had a chance to troubleshoot for about 20 mins last night as it was getting late.

My issue is that the buttons don't seem to correspond correctly.  Now I've been all over their support page and as soon as I get home will try to do a few more things...  ie, making certain everything is hooked up correctly etc.   But is there anyone that can give some insight...  I mean this should just work right out of the box correct ?

Also whats the best way to assign Admin buttons... I set up 3 buttons on my CP to do "exit", "pause", and "admin" .... and do I just hook those wires up to any of the ipac positions and then reconfigure ?

And if I changed the settings in hyperspin for 1st player (as i changed some keyboard assisgnments so I could actually test some games out) ... could that be effecting why its not working ?

Any help or insight would be much appreciated !!!

Left/right/up down and buttons 1 through 6, start, coin are plug and play for mame keystrokes if you connect them to the Ipac terminals as labeled.  Admin buttons have to be programmed via WinIPAC to 1A, 2A, 1B, 2B, or shifted buttons.  You have installed Win Ipac?  You've seen

Yeah... those are all connected and I believe they're done correctly.    I Have that software and I was trying to use it last night for a bit...  but it was getting late.

Ok .. so if the main buttons/joystick work out the box...  then let me ask you this... if I went into hyperspin or the emulator set up and manually changed my keyboard buttons for the 1st person position (I was trying to play on my keyboard a few months back to test out the software) ... would that throw it off ?     Come to think of it... I was only trying the 1st person position last night.. and no others.

And you can only link the buttons you listed as the admin buttons ?  .... and you have to use the Win Program to then add them ... is this correct.   So I have 3 separate buttons on my control panel, I want to "pause", "escape" and have one set up as "admin" (I don't think there are any better button choices are there ?)  ... these would get connected dual connected to the buttons you listed.. and then program through the little Win program ?

I appreciate all the help tremendously... I have a house full of people coming over this weekend for a halloween party and I've been hyping up my mame... and if I can't get the thing working I'm going to look like a complete idiot.  lol

Thanks for your help !

The ipac comes programmed to the mame defaults.  I.e. player one directions are the arrow keys, P1 button one is left control, etc.  if you changed these in mame you need to change them back, (press tab in mame and select "change settings for all games" if you have never programmed the Ipac with WinIpac.

For your three non shifted admin buttons, you need to wire them to 1A, 1B, 2A or 2B on the ipac.  for example, to map your pause button to "P" which is the mame pause keystroke, you'll need to use WinIpac to program that button, say its connected to 1A, to register a keypress on 1A as "P".    This is all well covered on Andy's site and that's a better resource than my rusty memories. I set and forgot all this stuff over a year ago.  Also, admin is "tab" and and exit is "esc" for mame.

Hey... thank you so much... I greatly appreciate all of your help !   I've been going through their site today off and on and realizing that I missed a lot in my rush to try and trouble shoot in 10 minutes the problem.   What you're saying makes much sense.

Thank you again... and wish me luck... hopefully in a couple hours I'll have this fixed.

Ok.. next question.   All the buttons and sticks are working correctly... but now I'm having an issue with Hyperspin front end... How do I set it up so that ONLY player 1 can control the selection of the games..

As it is now.... a couple of buttons work on player 2 .... one button works on player 3 ... to select and start playing a game.   Everytime I look at the hyperspin config... it doesn't even show a set up for a 3rd or 4th joystick...  I'm confused.
