hooking up Aimtrak to Carnevil shotgun
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:44:40 am »
this project I'm doing is something I wanted to do for a long time. I got a rather beat up gun for cheap (at least cheap over here in Germany) that arrived yesterday. it was way smaller than I thought.

I hooked up a pretty big solenoid and everything is working great except for one thing. there is just not enough space for the Aimtrak in the barrel as you may see on the pictures. this means the Aimtrak has no straight line of sight which makes the gun pretty much useless on the cabinet as it is now. any suggestions how could do something about it?  maybe bending the sensor could help?

also,  which led from the sensor bar is the most important? threw single one, the group of leds or all of them?

thanks in advance,

Olli

In some of the retrofit tutorials on here, the camera on the end of the aimtrack board is desoldered, then wires used to extend it to the end of the barrel.

Odd question about which led is most important.  I would think all of them are needed.

That's a cool gun to have!

The reason I'm asking which led is the most important was because the gun also reacts to sunlight so it may use one source of light to work.

I could remove the board with the sensor but it's still too big. I don't think it would be possible to ONLY remove the sensor?

Will the pcb with the sensor on it fit inside the black cap that goes on the end of the gun?
If so, you could sand the thickness of the pcb off the end of the barrel and mount the sensor on the end of the barrel, but still inside the end cap.
You could round off the corners of the pcb as long as there are no traces on the parts you remove.

Just throwing ideas out there.
I've never messed around with a carnevil gun, so I don't really know how far away it is from fitting.
(I have done this mod with a happ gun and the whole assembly just fits in the end of the barrel after grinding out some internal braces)

The black cap is just holding everything together and is not any kind of extension. Thanks for your input so far. I'll try to remove the pcb and hope I wont destroy the whole thing.

It has a larger inner diameter than the gun.
If the camera pcb fits inside it, then you could cut a little bit off the end of the orange parts to make room and nothing would look different when it is put back together.

Funny, just had the same idea. Great, I'm getting crafty in this very moment. Will report later!
