High Score Competition Replay #2: Jungle King

High Score Competition Replay #2. Jungle King

With over 4 years and 100 titles of high score competitions many titles have been exhausted, and many people have missed their chance to compete on their favorite title. The High Score Competition Replay is a fun way to give people another shot at those contests they missed while other members are actively doing the same thing (rather than just trying to beat the score on the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard).

Contest winner receives nothing but bragging rights (and possibly a spot on the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard if the score is high enough). Previous title champions are encouraged to post a score, but will not be eligible to win the new contest.

The replay competition uses the same titles as the normal competition, in the same order. Each contest begins on a Sunday morning and runs two weeks ending on a Saturday evening.

Original Contest: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,83889.0.html

Original Title Champion: CrazyKongFan

- One credit only!

- No continues or adding credits!

- No MAME cheats!

- Last day is Saturday October 27th (11:59:59pm Central Time), 2012. Next title up is Zoo Keeper.

- High score wins.

- No savestates, savestate practices, etc. during the round.

- MAME INP recordings are encouraged but optional.

- A screenshot is required to enter a score (press F12 to save screenshot showing your final score) or take a photo of the game screen.

- If you're a MARP competitor on this title, keep in mind this is just a friendly competition among forum members, so maybe you shouldn't enter. However, if you're a forum member and this is a game you're good at and nobody knows about it, this is your time to shine!

- Even if you don't have a competitive score or if you don't *think* that you have a competitive score, please post it anyway to keep the thread fun & to give everybody a good sense of score ranges.

- Please make sure your scores are from games that take place during the competition period (no posting your best score from last year, etc.).

- Use of autofire or other non-standard hacks within MAME or your PC's OS are not allowed.  No program or other person or entity of any sort may manipulate your controls during your game.  Coaching & back-seat driving is fine as long as the party doesn't directly influence the game or controls.

- If you can beat any of the high scores from the previous competitions, you can submit your score to the BYOAC High Game Scoreboard.

Good luck!

After practicing a little bit I realized I was playing the jungleh roms not junglek.   I think this one is actually a little tougher than jungleh.   Although I like the use of the jungle call in this one.

7700 to start with...

I only got to the rocks section if that's what you mean.   The one specific thing I noticed that was different was the coral.   In this one the there is a section of coral that is higher than jungleh.

I played this a little last week thinking the competition was only a week long and not two.  I have to say, as much as I love this game, I remember now why it used to piss me off so .... regardless, time to swing from some vines, stab some alligators, dodge some rocks, jump over some creeps and save some bitches!

8700 after a couple plays. I know I can do better than that because I didn't even save the girl.

I'm somewhat a veteran of this game. Getting to the first Native screen on my first dude is usually a given. In this case, I did better than that. Apparently, I got a new personal record.

Afterthoughts and pointers: in current MAME you can let the monkeys get high on the vine, then jump to near the bottom, and they won't come down after you; this may be a bug MAME bug, because I think the monkeys didn't do this in older MAME. the second river and boulder screens are a little tricky. The Native screen is the same. Easy peasy.

The third vines is hard. I've gotten there before, and always as with this time the fast vines elude me.

I am now able to get thru the first round on 1 guy.    The 2nd round water section is really tough.    14,400.

You have to swim as fast as possible the whole time, and quickly dip down for the crocs.

Hahah, yeah, huh?

I like how the graphics are relatively plan in the 1st round, get a little more colorful in the 2nd and just crazy in round 3.

2 things I just recently noticed:

1. I thought you could not touch the coral, which is not the case
2. If you swing on a vine to long it will drop you off.

21,050

Nice. I was waiting for that.

The coral is in the foreground...although I rarely if ever dive that deep around it, because bubbles come from below.

I remember that, but maybe only on round three there could be a reason to hold onto a vine that long. Time to crank up the rig, see if I can best ya all.

No, the winner just wins at life, there is no better prize.

kixfan wins with 21,050 points. This was a close one with multiple contestants with very close scores.

The next game up is Zoo Keeper. The replay contests follow the same titles as the original high score contests in the same order.
