Gamelist not updating right
« on: October 06, 2012, 06:32:50 pm »
Hi all,
Having a problem updating my gamelist for some reason.  I had modified my All games and tried to refresh it to get everything, although I have over a 1,000 ROMs, only a hundred or so show up.  I checked all the settings and switched what I could, only check I have is to only select games with a ROM found in ROM folder.

The thing is, it loads the games, but only games starting with A, B, and some C.  I deleted the list and just loaded a 100 games to test, and same thing. A, B, and some C games, none of the rest.

Deleted and reinstalled MALA, same issue... Games found and working in MAME, they used to be present in MALA, but not now...

Ideas?

Version 1.74.

Have you messed with the mame.xml file?

Mala pulls the info from there to create the gamelist.

Haven't touched it to the best of my knowledge.  I'll check it, not sure what it is, open in Notepad to take a look I guess?

I don't do much in the actual MAME program, so can't imagine what I would have done in there.

Thanks.

Just checked the MAME.xml file and holy CRAP is that a big file... Good lord no I haven't touched that.  It's really big though, and filled with tons of stuff about lots of things so I'm thinking it hasn't been cutoff or whatever at the C's or something.

Any other ideas?

It may not be up to date. Delete it. Open a cmd box, and navigate to the directory. Type: mame -listxml > mame.xml

Now see.

Yah!
Gray_Area rocks...

When I was updating my all games listing regardless of if I had ROM or not, list would max at 1,828, which at first looked long enough, but as I reviewed listing it contains lots and lots of games starting with A, B, and C, but few above that.  Found the XML file, which showed zero size. Been a while since I played with Command lines (DOS?) so couldn't get it to accept the line that you printed above or know what it is supposed to do.  But found the same file and much bigger in my MAMEUI32 folder, grabbed that and replaced the one in the MAME folder.

Updated all games and got 10,599 listings.  Changed settings to just be ROMS that I had, and lo and behold it only found the ones that I have in there.

So happy, don't know how I caused problem, probably when I tried and failed to compile.

But better, and can get back to creating my game lists.

Thank you!! :)
