Parallel cable color-to-pin mapping

I am using parallel cables as quick disconnects for the controls on my driving cab.  I wanted to determine which colored wires mapped to which pin so I used a continuity tester to map out the color-to-pin mapping.

After cutting the parallel cable wires I had lying around, I noticed I had three different types of cables (18 wire pair, 17 wire pair and 25 individual wires).  I included the color mappings for these wire types below in case anyone else could benefit from my patience  ;D

Note1: I was told that the coloring mapping for parallel cables are not standard, so it depends on the type of cable you are working with for your project, but maybe this can help you out...

Note2: "unused" means the wire is not connected to any pin

Note3: In the (TYPE 1) cable, I believe 18 through 25 are ground so multiple wires mapped to these pins.



TYPE 1) Parallel Cable with 36 wires (18 pairs)

 6 = Pink/Yellow
 7 = Yellow
 8 = Green
 9 = Green/Blue
10 = Blue
11 = LightBlue

13 = LightBlue/LightGreen
14 = Purple
15 = Grey
16 = Grey/Yellow
17 = White
18 = Brown/White

19 = Red/Black
     Orange/Black

20 = Pink/Black
     Pink/Purple

21 = Pink/White    
     Yellow/Black

22 = LightGreen/Red    
     Green/Black

23 = LightBlue/Black  
     Grey/Black

24 = Blue/White        
     LightBlue/Blue

TYPE 2) Parallel Cable with 34 wires (17 pairs)

Wow, nice!  this should be added to the FAQ.  

If you cut the cable though, all you have to do is match the colors of the wires to connect pin X to pin Y.  Unless you solder a parallel connector into something.

If you were using Type3 cable then of course you would not need to know the actual color mapping since there was only 25 wires and 25 pins so individual each wire would have a corresponding pin.  However, you are using Type1 or Type2 cables then some of the wires do not connect to any pin (or some of the wires go to the same pin) so it is helpful to know exactly which color of wire to use in these cases.
