  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi Folks.

Is there a way to Horizontaly "Flip" windows xp/MAME display so it reflects correctly in a upright cabinet mirror? I am not talking about rotation, it must be flipped so it relfects correctly in the mirror.

I am using an old "Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT", and have already looked through the nVidia software, which to me only seems to talk about rotation and not flip.

Any ideas? Any software that can do this? Am I missing something :-)

Regards.

Look online. I remember seeing a video where you only had to switch some wires, versus flipping the yoke. This makes me wonder: couldn't you use swap the the vertical and horizontal syncs on a VGA plug?

Thats sounds quite possible, but how is that done? is there a step by step guide for a novice?

No that would not work. Reversing the wiring of the horizontal deflection coil on the yoke can be done. You need to know what you are doing though. There is potential for serious damage.

thanks very much for all your responses on this, most welcome. this works well for airing ideas.  :)

Its a shame there is not a little box out there that could plug in to a monitor connection that allows you to do all these types to tricks, a little like the way the SLG 3000 works inline. or maybe the slg 3000 could have that built in ;-)

There are mirror/flip inverter boxes that can be bought for either DVI or VGA, but they run ~$400 and up.  Most are used for teleprompter applications or stereoscopic 3D boxes.

I'm unaware of any modern ATI or NVidia drivers that will do a mirror/flip, but if anyone finds one please let me know!

Maximus Arcade supports "mirroring" natively in the front end.  Not sure about the emus though.

Too bad support has dropped for that front end. Still, it might be worth checking out for the free 30 day trial.

With CRT monitors , you can flip the wires for the horizontal and/or flip the wires for the vertical to get the mirror image.
