Mame update question
« on: September 27, 2012, 11:05:03 am »
I am currently running mame .127 and am thinking of updating to either .146 or .147.  I know that people are tinkering with mame all the time, but are there any "noticeable" changes that would make it worth it for me to update?

On .127, the Crusi'n USA roms run at a snail's pace and Lethal Enforcers does not allow for reloading.  Does anyone know if these specific issues have been addressed?

I just realized something else.  I have been using a mame.exe that has been updated to .127u8, but my romset is just .127.  Was this causing some type of incompatibility without me even realizing it?

Cruis'n USA most likely runs slow because your computer isn't fast enough.
Using a newer version wouldn't help.

Lethal Enforcers has had many updates since v.127 and works fine.

Only the roms whose drivers were updated between v.127 and v.127u8 would be affected.
There were probably only a few.

I held steady at v.137 for a while, but there were some new PGM games in v.146 that made it worthwhile.
Demon Front and a DoDonPachi II in particular.

Since you mentioned Cruis'n, Offroad Challenge is fixed in v.147.

Thanks for the input. I don't think I'm gonna bother with the chds, but I was also wondering if there are any roms that worked on earlier versions (such as 127) but do not work on later versions. I realize that on the name development page, in the "whats new" section, some roms are newly labeled as "not working". Now, does that mean that those roms used to work and now no longer do or does it mean that they never worked and are now just labeled as such?

It could be either.

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
