DC, Xbox, PS2, PC... on a standard arcade monitor?
« on: October 10, 2003, 12:48:21 am »
Hey I was wondering if you could play DC, XBox, PS2, and PC on a standard arcade monitor? I really need to know. I know that some people have been saying that high res monitors are the best but I might have to settle for this. Please reply. Thanx.

To play on your computor monitor you need to get a VGA box, should find them on ebay or at your local Videogamestore.

DC can output to a normal computer monitor... (on most games...)

No no no guys. I mean a standard arcade monitor. I have a scan converter that I will be wiring to the monitor and have VGA boxes to make them playable. I wanted to get an arcade cab that had a standard res monitor but I don't know if it will support the play of the DC, PS2, Xbox, and PC. Please reply. Thanx.

Dreamcast is easy.  The hacked vga box works well.

But I haven't heard any specific hack for the others.

There IS a scart -> arcade monitor cable that works... but I'm not sure if will work with X-Box and PS2 ect.  (anyone??)...  But that might be a good way to do it.  Scart is MUCH better the US tv's..

I'm not sure if you can use scart without using a UK xbox, ect. or just changing the cable...

Actually SNAAAKE invented a method that he showed me. Also for Xbox you need an Xbox VGA converter. The Xbox vga converters in the stores really suck. If you want a L33T one go to:

www.xboxvga.com

They have one there that is the best on the market. Self made. Cost is $70 + sh&h. Does anyone here know if I can use a DC, Xbox, PS2, or PC on a standard monitor? Thanx.

As posted in the "Game Consoles" faq, the answer is yes.  All those consoles have the ability to output 15khz rgb in one way or another.  SCART is the prefered method.  For the XBOX, you could also use the xboxvga transcoder to convert the 480i signal to rgb and that will work as well.

You will need a scanconverter (or the ArcadeVGA card) to output your computer to the arcade monitor.

I don't want to tick anyone off by mentioning this, but it's on-topic.  ;)

For anyone interested, I have full RGB SCART cables for many systems available at my store.  These are the best base to start with for what you want to do.  If you don't use an RGB SCART cable, regardless of where you get it, you will need to solder wires directly to the A/V connections on the main board.  I don't recommend this for obvious reasons :)

Also remember that not all SCART cables are created equal.  As all outputs are represented in the connector, they could be Composite, S-video, or RGB only.  Make sure you check beforehand.

Question about running a pc on an arcade screen...  I've had mixed success with image quality running my PC video on a TV screen.  My parents' 27" Sony flat tube looks perfect at 1024x768 using s-video cables, and some TV screens look awful anywhere above 640x480.  How do the arcade monitors do at 1024x768?
