10" LCD display as a Marquee, where to get?
« on: September 19, 2012, 04:47:06 pm »
Anyone know about a LCD display that would be approx. 27cm (10.5 inch) x 7cm(2.8 inch)? The display CAN be w30cm (11.8 inches) x h13cm (5.1 inches), but the area displayed is the one I mentioned first. I found this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pyle-PLCM105-10-2-Inch-Monitor-Back-Up/dp/B0052YOD48/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348068042&sr=8-1 but it's a bit too expensive..I can't believe that there isn't any cheaper solution at this size. Ordering from the states is not really an option, since all the taxes and customs after the postage..

Any ideas?

That rear view mirror monitor is great!

I gotta bookmark that for a project. It's just begging to be used

Good tip Turvey! It's possible that it wouldn't be checked by customs, since there is so much stuff coming from HK to here, that they just don't have time to check every package :). But if it would..yeah, quite much still.

The connection is the next question. If it has composite connection, it won't be displayed as a second display with my gfx card with my current setup (gotta double check my cards connections though, not sure if I have s-video connection).

If your building your own cab, consider if you can get two normal monitors, and have one infront of the other (or hide 1/2 the monitor behind something).  Then have the marquee only show up on the top part.  Normal monitors are much cheaper.

Yeah, that would be one option if I was building from scratch, but since my project is renewing on an old cab, that's not an option :).

BUT! I managed to find a good deal by buying the one I linked, but from amazon.com and as a previously used item. I'm using borderlinx to get stuff here from there, so it's easy as well. Price should end up being about 75 euros, so that's not bad :). Of course I have to get the video signal working, but after some thorough thinking, it seems that everything should work out ok. If not, I'll use it for some other project :). So yeah, win-win.

Can't wait to set it up!
