Casters on a Dynamo Cab
« on: September 17, 2012, 12:38:11 am »
Hi all. I nedd to add casters to a dynamo cab because it needs to be moved for cleaning under it. Today I've bought the casters and I've noticed that it has a deep bottom the leg levelers are held together by some metal corner. I've googled a bit and searched the forums and I think that I can add 2x4s to the bottom and then attach the casters to it.

Will the 2x4s hold? Do you have a better way if doing this.

Thanks in advance

I don't really understand how you intend to put it in, but I use 2x4 extensively when moving stuff around. Unless there's a serious defect in one of the boards or you decide to jump on and down on the thin side of an 8' long board while it's mounted between sawhorses, it'll hold quite well. I have a dolly made from 1 1/2 x 4 boards and I've crushed the metal casters before I broke the boards. It all depends on how you put it together.

Perhaps if you give us a photo or a sketch or something on how you intend to put the boards in, we'll get a better idea of what you're trying to do.

I need the 2x4s because the base of the cabinet is flushed, and I want to raise the cabinet a little bit, using 2x4 and the casters will give me a decent height. I've been thinking in returning the casters and buying larger ones too....

Do you thing the bottom part of the cabinet will handle all the weight?

The bottom should hold the weight just fine if the bottom is in good condition.  I have a couple of my Atari games on casters and they are about the same weight/construction as a Dynamo.

Didn't that cab originally have levelers under it?  Leveler feet bear the weight the exact same way the casters do.  In fact you can buy casters that just swap right into the leveler mount plates.

This is the bottom of the arcade, can you notice the bottom. The cabinet is actually held by 4 corner brackets that hold the levelers. Do you think its safe to place the casters in the bottom board of the arcade?

Probably, if you put it on those cross braces on the outside, but can't tell for sure without looking at the inside.

One thing to note is that casters DO make the thing wobble a little bit during play.  The wheels only make a little bit of actual contact with the floor so if it's a game that has a lot of pulling/pushing the cabinet will move a small amount.

Probably I can do something like the image i'm posting here (googled it). Or maybe I can hack the corner leg leveler to fit the casters

This are the leg levelers my arcade has.

I cut a piece plywood to cover the bottom, then mounted casters on that.
Works great.
