Question for you 60-in-1 owners

Hi folks...

I'd love to have a cabinet that had some versatility for just a couple of games, so a 60-in-1 is a great choice... but I really, REALLY hate the way when you turn the system on you get the iCade menu.  Is it possible to get the board to auto-boot directly into a game?  What if you only have one game enabled on the system and the other 59 disabled... does it boot right into the game and you never have to see the menu?

Thanks for the info!  It just seems to me like I could make some of the classics into a really cheap 'dedicated' cabinet this way, while still being able to pretend they aren't on a multi-board.

You are correct.... if you only have 1 game enabled it will boot directly into the game....  You will not de able to tell it is running on a multi board!

Except for the colors, speed and sounds being bad, it'll be just like the real thing!
I'm kidding (sort of). Some of the games are OK, some are horrible. You'd be better off going with a newer version of MAME if the emulation matters at all to you.

You could also check out the ArcadeSD. It still boots to menu (unless you select it to run it single game mode), but the menu actually looks nice. You can also set the delay from immediate to ten seconds for it exiting a game back to menu.

I second that the emulation of some games is really bad, mostly when it comes to sound. In terms of lag and such things it doesn’t ruin my game play since I’m almost 40 and don’t have the same reactions as 30 years ago anyway Fortunately those are not my favorites anyway (or I have them in better versions at other cabinets). But yes, if you select one game you will not see any menu at all. And it boots really fast as well.
As a cheap alternative to original game boards it is OK. Not perfect, but most people couldn’t tell the difference. Let’s face it, how many of your friends have played Donkey Kong recently on an original cabinet? =)

Thanks for the great information!  The ArcadeSD looks awesome... But I'm inclined to wonder why I wouldn't just put a PC in there and run something else if I'm going to spend over $300 on it.  It is great product, but doesn't serve my purpose/need of cheap

I'm really only interested in a couple of the classics on the 60-in-1.  Namely 1942/43, Dig Dug, Galaga, Mappy, Ms. Pac-Man, and Space Invaders... but if it lags on DK, I'd imagine it will lag on 1942 also.  Hrumph... perhaps I'd better just buck up and mame the dang thing.

Why don't you just pick up a 60in1 and try for yourself..   They are only $50!

The reason you don't put a PC in there is because a large portion of the classic collecting community hates mame with a passion. But they love multiboards and kits that add more games to existing boards.

I shouldn't talk, I bought one of the new jrok fpga Multiwilliams boards the second my name came up on the wait list for them.

The multi-boards are running on an old version of MAME under Linux. Anyone shitting on MAME while running one of these is a fool.
The JROK boards are different, they have a menu front end, but run the games in hardware, not emulated via another program.
