Touchscreen monitors on Android
« on: September 06, 2012, 07:50:34 pm »
Just wondering if there is a way to get a normal 15 inch+ touchscreen to work with a cheap android device? I'm no genius at coding etc so was just wondering if there was a simple ish fix.

I plan on trying to make a tiny jukebox with one of those little android devices but was just wondering would it be even possible. (If anyone knows a cheap tiny alternative to andoid that can run tiny xp or something similar it would be even better)

Thanks

IIRC, there's an Android build for the Raspberry Pi, and that has HDMI output as well as USB for input.  I don't know how mature all the software is, but that would be very cheap.

I don't think I've ever seen a video output option on any Android tablet, and stock Android doesn't really support multiple monitors, anyway.

Why not just start with something like this? A 15" touchscreen monitor with the PC built into it?

Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Most of my Androids have video out, not sure about the Kindle.

So far the tablets we own use a proprietary connector that costs way too much. The phones have video out but uses a "standard" HDMI  connector that can only be had online anyways. Far easier and, for me, cheaper to dump the video onto the server.

My wife likes the idea of big screen video conferencing but we haven't found the killer app on android yet. This might be more of an issue with my carrier thouh.

Sorry was away for a few days. Thanks for those. Basically I'm looking for the cheapest way of making a touchscreen jukebox whilst keeping it as small as I can.  I figured those little android things similar to raspberry PI might work, but I think I'd have to mess with touchscreen drivers and kernels etc.

Its a shame to spend 200 quid on the cheapest PC that only gets used to play music. Thought ELO may have an app or something.

Anyway, back to the drawing board...or the piggy bank.
