Ipac 4 - USB Cable Option $4,, Is this a standard USB Cable?
« on: September 05, 2012, 09:06:41 pm »
Need to order a Ipac 4, it has an option for USB cable for $4.  Can I use a standard USB cable? IE Regular type A (Flat) or B (square)?

How does it compare with the Ipac4?  Looks like it comes with wiring harnesses ...

Also noticed it's not in stock.  I have been unable to reach Paradise for the past couple of days on their RGB joysticks,, I know they took vacation but posted they would be back on Monday.
Availability: This product is no longer in stock

Patience... It's not gone forever. You've only been logged on to BYOAC for 7 1/2 hours, go cruise the Project Announcements.

So are you suggesting iserian wait until Pardise Arcade gets an unknown product shipped in from China to progress on his or her project? I don't know the answer to the OP's question. I suspect that it's not a standard USB cable because there seems to be no USB jack on any of the I-Pac4 pictures I have seen.

And if were pitching alternatives, I think a pair degenetron's diy encoders can satisfy iserian's needs. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120362.0.html

It's not a standard USB cable, it's a USB to PS/2.  You either get a PS/2 to PS/2 cable or if you want a USB cable, you pay the $4 and get a PS/2 to USB.

No, I'm suggesting that waiting will pay off in the end. If you're in a hurry in this hobby, you're in the wrong hobby.

The Lono2 is not an "unknown Chinese product", it was designed and made to Paradise's specs in the USA. I have an I-PAC, Lono, and Lono2... The Lonos give a better bang for the buck (in the case of a 4 player setup or other setup that requires a high number of inputs). The Lono2 has 72 inputs that the computer sees as 4 different controllers, whereas the I-PAC has 56 inputs all seen as one keyboard. The Lono2 comes with ready made harnesses for plug and play capability (I'm an advocate against screw terminals ;)), and a USB cable that doesn't cost an additional $4. No, it doesn't have MAME's default inputs programmed into it (it's a gamepad device), but a few minutes in the tab menu and it's ready to roll.

And if were pitching alternatives, I think a pair degenetron's diy encoders can satisfy iserian's needs. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,120362.0.html

I'm all for DIY, but in another of iserian's threads he was a little reluctant to make his own harnesses. I think a plug and play solution would be his best bet.

Thanks Trip,  looks like it's something I will need to order with the Ipac4.

The DIY encoders look ingenious.

From a patience standpoint I have several email's into Paradise over the past several weeks with ZERO responses.  If I had confidence the Lono was going to be in stock in the near future it looks like a nice/simple solution.  I have Ipac2's in my other cocktail's and are doing the trick.

I, too, had a bad experience with Paradise where they let me hang for a week and then lied to me about a shipment to buy time. The Lono looks great, but I think I'll pass. It's also a little expensive considering you still have to remap your emulators and front-end.

You do know that Bryan and Susan have been out of town visiting family and on vacation for several weeks, right?

Paradise isn't Bryan and Susan's full time job.  Bryan works in a hospital and Susan is busy with their young child and handling the packing/shipping/billing adjustments.

I, too, had a bad experience with Paradise where they let me hang for a week and then lied to me about a shipment to buy time.
Lied is pretty strong.  I know that Susan has gotten things mixed up a few times, but I don't believe there was any intent to mislead or defraud.  Paradise is NOT RAM Scam Controls.

I've placed a half-dozen orders with them and when there has been a minor mix-up, Susan has fixed it.

One time, a product was restocked several days after I placed an order.  At my request, Susan adjusted my order to add the product, saving me a separate shipping charge.   :applaud:

Some of the orders took several weeks to process and ship, but that is the absolute worst I can say about my experiences with Paradise.

I know that Bryan is working on streamlining and improving order processing.

Given how much he contributes to the hobby, I'll be patient and give them the benefit of the doubt.

They are back  ;)  I spoke with Susan and she is putting together two pairs of RGB sticks for my 3 way Cocktail as we speak.

Back to topic.  Thanks for confirming the USB is custom.  I ordered it with the ipac4.  I also ended up with multiple pacled64s but may try the lono if they are in stock for my next build.
