Does Joust2 Work for anyone?
« on: August 22, 2012, 09:51:54 am »
I am not having any luck getting the Joust2 rom to launch on my system and was wondering if anyone else knew of an issue with it.  I typically run groovymame, but went back to the vanilla build and am having the same issue, which is it crashing once it launches.  Most of the rest of my games work ...

Works for me on 143... if it hangs with stuff still on screen, try hitting F3... some of those F buttons are admin switches I think.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Most Williams games from that era (or at least the previous one, since we're talking about the sequel) require a restart after the initial POST.  Doesn't sound like that's the problem he's having, though.  Sounds to me like it's trying to switch to a res/sync combo that's freaking out his hardware.  Maybe try deleting your .cfg for that game and trying again.  If you're worried about preserving custom settings, just move that particular .cfg out of the folder so MAME can't find it, then move it back if necessary.  If it's making the game crash, though, you probably don't need to keep it.

From the Mame FAQ:

Joust 2
When you see "FACTORY SETTINGS RESTORED", hit F2 (Service Mode)

Well that's wrong... it's F3 (soft reset).  I would say that shift-F3 (cold reboot) would probably not be a good idea, but it might work.

And again... if the game is crashing before it loads, that is NOT the problem.  Trash that .cfg file, especially if other games run fine!
