Need hardware recommendations for a bartop
« on: August 22, 2012, 12:38:44 am »
Ok- building a bartop since I've procrastinated making a cabinet for a long time.  I'm shopping for parts right now and would appreciate input on everything I need.

For the encoder, is there any reason I shouldn't get an I-PAC from Ultimarc?

Is there a recommended smart strip? I should use a smart strip, right?

I like the coin mech buttons.  Does anyone make a 25 cent button?

I have no idea what to use for speakers and what to power the speakers with.  Recommendations?

Same goes with lighting the marquee.  Is there anything everyone is using?

I plan on using Sanwa sticks and buttons since I like Street Fighter.  Is there a preferred place to purchase these?

I already have a monitor laying around, so I've got that covered.  Same goes for the pc- got an old quad-core rig.  It's ATX though, gonna try to fit it rather than buying new stuff.  If I have to, I guess I'd try to get a micro-ITX that fits my old processor and ram.  Maybe use some PCI risers to keep the profile low.

Has anyone tried incorporating a retractable power cord?   I might try this:

Just don't know if it'll work since both ends are pulled.  It'd be nice to have just one side.

Any recommended quiet case fans?

Thanks for any input and please let me know if I'm forgetting something

Thanks!  I'm gonna buy all of those.  Is there a standard piece that holds the marquis glass in place?  Also- how do people mount the monitor glass in place? Should I buy the wiring kit from ultimarc?
And how do you connect the smart strip to that power socket?

The power inlet did not come with a fuse btw (and they are hard to find!), so get it off of amazon for ~$5 at the same time.

Wiring isnt that difficult, I can send you a pic of mine later.

For the glass, I just put a piece of 90degree metal mounted under the glass to hold it in place. Send you a pic later.

For marquee holder, suzo-happ sells one. Alot of people use angle iron from Home Depot or carpet edger. Depends on the look you want.

By the way, use plexi for marquee and greylite glass for the screen. Way, way, way better in my opinion. Tried both, went with greylite.
