MaLa menu editor
« on: August 20, 2012, 06:45:46 am »
Hi,
if I knew about this forum I would have posted this sooner.
Back in 2010 I was evaluating MaLa to see if it was the right front end for my MAME setup.
I became frustrated with the MaLa menu editor so I decided to write my own one.
Its main advantage is that it lets you re-order the items in the menu, pushing them up or down within a level, or pushing them up/down a level (ie changing the hierarchical position of an item).
I remember having to use it in conjunction with the standard menu editor, so it is not a complete replacement.
Anyway, I have attached the source tree from my visual studio c# project. Binaries are in there somewhere. You'll probably need dotnet 3.5 to run it.
Feel free to do with this stuff what you like. I am now using hyperspin but I noticed that MaLa has had a couple of updates in the last couple of years so maybe I will go back to it and take a look to see if some of the problems I had with it have been addressed. I hope the attached menu editor is still compatible with the latest version of MaLa. If it is not, the source is there so you can try and mod it to make it work.
Please visit my utube channel (GordyDownUnder) from time to time to check out any of my MAME projects I might post there. I will be building another cab this australia summer (your winter if you live in the northern hemisphere) and I might document some of the build on utube.
Feel free to email me with any questions - can't guarantee I'll get back to you very quickly mind you. I am very busy at the moment.
Cheers
