I will be using it with a 1.6 p4 and 512 meg of mem

I also have a spare radeon 7200.. what would be better?

I doubt the card will be the bottleneck.  Most likely it will be your CPU.

Mame is NOT a 3D program. Sure they may have slapped in some direct3D functions in the latest release, but it still does not matter. I have NEVER been able to tell the difference between one video card and the next using Mame. The 2MB onboard shared memory video on one of my comps looks exactly the same as it does through my GeForce2 or my Voodoo3 on another computer.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Outside of MAME, meaning using emulators that utilize 3D (PSX, N64 & Zinc), I've found that the card does struggle when using 32bit color of 16bit.

Thats said, 16bit colors is fine for all those emulated games, and the performance at 16bit is brilliant.

I love this card, totally recommend it.

I run a P4 2.4G pentium, 1G ram, with a barebones Win98, as I've personally found it outperforms XP.

For just mame, yeah, It's just an ATI VE.  ATI has always made one of the best 2D cards ever.
