noobie needing some answers
« on: August 06, 2012, 10:08:00 pm »
hey guys i recently began this arcade project, i want to turn my raiden 2 (currently not working unfortunately due to battery) into a ps3 cabinet. Why ps3? simply because i want a arcade machine in my home with up to date and modern fighting games (street fighter 4 AE, tekken, blaze blue, UMVC3, etc.) my question is to those both who have build a ps3 arcade cabinet and to those who have build a regular arcade cabinet, what are the expenses after successfully building the machine, how difficult is it? plug and play? or all these high tech wires everywhere in the cabinet, and what screen projector do you guys use? a LCD? or those big tvs that are originally inside the classic arcade machines? many thanks and appreciative for replying :)

Best thing you can do is read through a bunch of threads in the project announcements forum.

It doesn't feel like spam, don't worry. But you'll get your best ideas by checking out the ideas of others. Welcome to BYOAC and I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

One tip is you'll see most guys are using LCDs now, not CRTs.

Like mgb said, if you go with a new LCD, there will be no real wiring involved.  It will be more of a woodworking project (look up VESA mount LCD).  If you can hook up a PS3 to an LCD now, you can hook one up mounted inside a arcade shaped entertainment center.

The only real technical issue is the control panel to PS3 interface, then it's down to cost, somewhere there is a plug and play interface ready to be bought for the right price, or you can try to make one by butchering a normal controller (left, right,up,down is easy, it's the analog sticks that are going to be an issue to hack together).
Just get 2 of something like these and remount the parts:

or

[last minute edit]

Just don't kill yourself taking out the old CRT (read:discharge it first), if it works, sell it on ebay or CL.

You do not need to discharge a monitor just to remove it. You only need to discharge a monitor if you have to take the suction cup off the tube.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Hi !

If you are looking for Buttons and joysticks to choose from , Popular brands are Seimitsu and Sanwa (if you wanna learn more about buttons PCB and those sort if things you can check out this website its awesome even though its not for a cabinet it has useful stuff on the arcade stick itself http://www.slagcoin.com/ . )

As for the PCB a cheap and pretty  good one will be the ZD rematch . The ZD remtach works for both PS3 and PC ( here's the link http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,116490.0.html ) . For shop to buy buttons , joysticks balltops and all those stuff you can check out these few website , AkihabaraShop.jp http://www.focusattack.com/ http://www.arcadespareparts.com/arcade_parts/sanwa_parts.html .

Good luck :D
