mala 1.7.4.0 background music issue

So I am using 1.7.4.0 and when i add certain mp3 files, and I add them to my background music in mala, nothing happens. They don't play, the file just sits there. If I click on the file name in the "Background music" tab and hit play, Mala just freezes up and wont let me click on anything. I so far have only been successful in getting one song to play. It was giving me an error before but it's not now, now its just not playing the music. I have read on here that it could be due to the punctuation of the file name so I made it all one word with no spaces and that did not help.

might I also add that when I do get the one song to play in the menu as background music, mala has an error and shuts down when i hit the down arrow to select a game.
